OCEANSX XPLORATION

CREW SUPPORT

Why

We envision a future state where the maritime industry contributes its fair share towards 55% emission reductions by 2030 (aka EU’s Fit for Fifty Five) and carbon-neutrality by 2050. To enable this end-state all stakeholders need to be willing – and enabled – to share data and knowledge. This in turn will allow all involved to safely and timely optimize each element of their own part of the chain. Step-by-step transforming our maritime sector to one that is future proof for the decades to come.

Our mission is to set up a transparent and secure (maritime) data-infrastructure for an inclusive community that, in its essence, will enable the required (energy, digitisation and automation) transformations in the maritime sector and beyond by the end of 2022.

    In this space we build supportive community with a collective mindset.

    Crew support builds a prototype data-infrastructure to enable federated learning.

What

Xploration Crew Support and its seeding consortium partners understand that three key-elements define the desired endstate – ‘able and willing to share data and knowledge’:

A data-sovereign infrastructure. This standardized, decentralized, transparent, open, federated and secure infrastructure will expedite the development of algorithms and learning to generate energy efficient decision making, port logistics optimization, reduction of maintenance costs, reduce administrative workload for crews, etc.;

A supportive community with a collective mindset. This collective mindset needs values, principles, iteration, certification and governance;

Boosting mechanisms to unleash the human potential (from seafarer to developer) and guarantee participation within that community. Engaged crews provide necessary enrichment of data-sets and engaged developers provide efficient data-driven feedback and products.

How

Proof-of-concept (end of 2022) – Build a prototype data-infrastructure to enable federated learning including certification of nodes and mindset to share knowledge and information focused on preventive maintenance in order to reduce down times and (un)foreseen costs;

Scale towards inclusive (maritime) community building on proof-of-concept (2022-2023) – On board new community members. Iterate community mindset, node certification and governance. Target boosting mechanisms to optimize algorithm development and learning by engaging crews and developers.

Scale towards cross-sectoral community (2023-onwards) – Connect with cross-sectoral infrastructures and communities

Xploration – Oceans1 A serious game for seafarers

Oceans1 is a competition for the crews of sea-going vessels with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions. With this project, OceansX wants to create a movement that contributes to the realisation of the goals as laid down by the International Maritime Organization: a fifty percent reduction by 2050 in comparison to 2008.
