RECAP Day 1 – OceansX ONE hackathon
With OceansX ONE we have the ambition to become the key momentum driver towards sustainable shipping. Therefore we create a movement by facilitating a challenge in which crews can compete in a friendly and open manner. A competition where sharing knowledge, insights and innovations is more rewarding than beating fellow participants. But winners as we are, we probably want to come out on top after all.
This hackathon supports the OceansX ONE challenge and the participating crews with providing (near real-time) data-driven feedback.
Kick-off day one
Today the hackathon kicked off at 9AM with 7 teams. These teams represent businesses and institutions all across the maritime and IT-sector. From students to hardcore professionals and everything in between. A diverse and inclusive group of purpose driven individuals coming together around this social issue.
In their hero’s journey all teams faced departure. And as we know: departure is always a bit chaotic (@OceansX FOUR)! Getting out of the harbor safely was the priority: analyzing the vast data-set provided by the Royal Dutch Navy and getting the team acquainted with tough maritime science.
Some teams nearly drowned…
Injects and BOOSTS lead teams to day one results
Luckily Franka, from the situation room, injected a neat challenge at 1100. Stressing the importance of having fun as we go along! With the collage (see picture) as a sweet result.
After lunch KLTZTD Dr. Ir. Rinze Geertsma came with a BOOST. A lecture on maritime science. For some a gift for others a tornado. But just like in every hero’s journey the teams adapted, adopted throughout the day and reached their own calm ocean.
Way ahead
On day 2 the teams will further set sail. From the situation room, we will focus on connecting the teams with the available experts, mentors and practitioners. Providing wind in all sails.
