Oceans X ONE Hackathon! Fair winds and following seas!
Today is the start of the Oceans X ONE Hackathon! A unique and inspiring online event with over 30 participants from all parts of the country with one common goal: providing the best supporting algorithms and visualization for use during the Oceans ONE challenge.
Oceans X ONE is a challenge organized by Oceans X for crews of sea-going vessels to connect and experiment using shared knowledge & technical innovations to start a movement towards 50% CO2 reduction in the maritime sector. By providing customized support, (data-driven) insights, shared knowledge and a sporting gamified environment Oceans X ONE will boost social innovation. We believe fact-based impact will follow once a diverse and inclusive public is engaged. Practitioners in the workplace are best suited to create real change when rightly supported and inspired.
The hackathon is hosted by the Royal Dutch Navy, which also provided a challenging dataset from one of its Oceangoing Patrol Vessels for participants to use throughout the hackathon. Among the participants we find technical experts from the maritime sector including DAMEN and Royal IHC, the scientific community including TU Delft and Defensity College and programming experts from the Defense IT Innovation (JIVC/KIXS). Throughout the hackathon and participants are supported by various subject matter experts and all involved are given a boost by daily inspirational technical and social lectures and workshops. Also included are various mini challenges to enhance social interaction and as an incentive collect bonus points for the team.
At Oceans X we believe social innovation is as important as technical innovation to meet social challenges. Therefore we embrace purpose, connectivity, inclusiveness and diversity, with open innovation and sustainability as our core values.
Which team will develop the smartest algorithms? The most stunning visualisations? And ultimately the best insights for the crew? Be sure to follow the rankings throughout the next three days to find out!
